Well, friends, it is done. We completed the Great Harrods Caper. The event was recorded on video, and edited together with questionable results.
Daphne and I followed the list, after a fashion. I think we found the most expensive item in the store. We also found the oldest (the fish you will see on the wall are 50 million year old fossils).

What you'll notice most, I think, is the preponderance of live animals.

Also, I learn an important lesson about gambling.

I should also point out that I am still in England, sitting here comfortably, and not (as I would have been) packing my bag and getting out my passport. This is because I seem to have the ability to attract storms whenever I fly home anymore. As much as I enjoyed sleeping on the conveyor belt all night at JFK the last time I flew home, I decided to skip it.

So, I'll be reporting from here for the next few days. Until then . . . here you go. 13 Little Blue Envelopes fans, here is your virtual visit to England’s most famous store, home of Richard Murphy.

(I have just put up a slightly higher quality version, so it may take a moment for youtube to catch up. Please come back in a few minutes if it doesn't play.)

YAY for videos!! I'm very sad you didn't win any money to donate to Decreasing WorldSuck. Oh well. Maybe Hank will lose big again and have to donate more money. :)

Yeah, I'm having the *hardest* time finding your books outside of the internet. I've been looking at every Borders and Barnes and Nobles in my area and they're all sold out right now (though you are on backorder). Finally, I went to this discount/consingment bookstore and found the Key to the Golden Firebird for four bucks. I think it was the only time I've ever been irritated at *not* paying full price for a book. But I bought it, read it in a night, cried some because it was so sweet, and am probably going to release it via bookcrossing.com.

I'm glad you had fun on your great Harrod's caper.

Haha, that was totally the best thing that has happened to me for at least two months, Maureen. I wish I could have been there with you a Daphne more than ANYTHING. I need to get published simply so I can hang out with all you amazing writer's during your "work" group. I'll bring the cheese cake. (I make a damn good cheese cake.)

So are you going to post the resuls of how many things you found? And what the cheapest, most expensive, etc. all were?

Congrats on a very sucessful trip. Don't worry, we pirate dancers shall come up with a way to decrease worldsuck.

Wowzers, you guys must have had tons of fun!!

But I can't believe they had Libba Bray, Scott Westerfeld, Holly Black, AND I love Ponies, but they didn't have any of your books. SO uncool!!

They didn't have your books?! That is so not cool! What good is Harrods if you can't get lost with your nose in a book with a part about getting lost in Harrods?!

Hope you get home without another night at the airport.

So, that 54,000 lb (as in British pound vs. US dollar, not as in units of 16 ounces) thing hanging from the ceiling -- was that the most expensive thing in the store? And if so -- or even if not -- what WAS it? A super-tricked out ceiling fan? Man, I have really been missing some home decorating opportunities.

I actually showed her the Brotherhood 2.0 blog prior to watching this video. I attempted to explain how everyone is related to each other in the YA world. It was also amusing.

Awesome! That looked like so much fun! I really need to go walk around a crazy department store with a video camera--it's one of those experiences everyone has to have at least once in their life, like scuba-diving or eating crab cakes.
